As a fan of 3D I get annoyed at the constant cash in market that has been dredged up in the last eighteen months. Films that shouldn't be made, never mind made in 3D are diluting the calender and poisoning the movie going public impression of this technique. Now we see a straight to video trilogy cult classic series like Cube (hypercube and cube zero) being given a 3D ramping up. Although with the concept of Cube it is very difficult to see just why a film with a severely limited sense of space would need this type of process other than pure cash in.
It's unclear whether or not this is a reboot or sequel but I lean towards reboot as there have already been three Cube movies and while Cube Zero was in fact a prequel I can really only see this as being an attempt at a relaunch to try and scrape one or two more films out of the barrel.
For those who never saw Cube the basic premise is that a small group of people wake up inside a cube and have to solve extremely complicated mathematical puzzles to move into other cubes in order to escape. The rooms are set up with pretty horrific traps and not everyone you think will survive does.
I liked Cube and would have been behind another except for the unneeded 3D aspect. Unless they have radically altered the format it is not needed.
