It's been 90% known as fact for some time but Buffy creator
Joss Whedon was in charge of the new Avengers project but he confirmed it yesterday at Comic-Con in San Diego.
The Avengers is a Marvel comics property in which a team of superheroes band together to defend the earth against villains which they can't defeat alone. It's a constantly rotating roster of characters but for this film it will centre around Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris
Hemsworth), Iron Man (Robert
Downey Jnr), The Hulk (Mark
Ruffalo), and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). Still unconfirmed but rumoured are Black Widow (Scarlett
Johansson) and
Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Loki (Tom
Hiddleston) and War Machine (Don
Cheadle).
Story details are skimpy right now but i expect Loki (
demi-god and relation to Thor) to be one of if not the primary villain of the film.
I'm not big on this type of film. the producers are relying on the audience having seen all of the other solo films in order to deal with character growth and development as there will be very little time to deal with any of that in two hours with so many characters and potential plot threads. One thing is for sure, don't expect too many sequence with all characters on screen at once, they only had that once in three X-men films.
