Since Die Hard 4 director Len Wiseman split from the project, Gears of War has slowly dropped in budget and scale and has done so once more.
The proposed adaptation of the popular video game has had it's budget slashed once more and it's now looking increasingly unlikely that we will see any sort of movie based on it in the reasonable future. The reason? No cast, no crew and script squabbles by a studio that wants a tight budget and a director who wants a lavish epic. Wiseman has been slowly moving to ever increasing budgets and i can understand him wanting to continue his rise but i feel that if you can't work with a smaller budget then your imagination as a director must be lacking. Look at District 9, totally convincing will a fraction of a big budget film.
I say shoot it as if it's a guerrilla news team following the footage of an insane war. Or, don't do it at all. I mean, it's all just fanboy stuff anyway, game adaptations never work out, look at Resident Evil, one of the best game series ever, turned into one of the worst film series ever. I think the world would manage along just fine with a smaller budget Gears of War, if it noticed at all.
