This is pretty exciting news for me. Director George Miller has begun location scouting for the fourth Mad Max movie.
Now here comes the debatable part. Mel Gibson will not be in it. Miller stated that Mel's passion is for film-making now and he can't see a fifty plus man returning to a role he started 30 years ago.
Now for me an older Max might sound cool but where can you go from there? He's sought and gained retribution for his murdered family, saved a colony of refugess and well, let's try and forget the train wreck that was Thunderdome (see what i did there?). Mad Max was a brilliant, anarchic piece of minimalistic film-making starring a young Mel Gibson, part 2 was possibly exploitative but turned out to a be a superior film and loved more by fans so i completely understand why Mad Max is set to make a return.
Miller is looking for a new and younger actor to play Max so i can only presume that the story is a sequel to part 2 and not part three where max is clearly much older.
Who could play Max? I'd say Karl Urban, top choice.
