Sinbad: Rogue of Mars has been announced to go into production for a 2012 release date under the helm of Barry Schneer, the nephew of Charles Schneer who produced the original Sinbad films as well as the original Clash of the Titans.
Not a reboot but a direct sequel to the first four films Rogue of Mars is an adaptation of a Sinbad comic that was announced back in the 70's for production but never happened. Now it seems, Sinbad fans will see a return.
Hard to believe that the Sinbad films started way back in the fifties. Judging by the standards of other films of that time they were extremely advanced, using stop motion miniature photography in a way that stunned audiences at the time. More below.....
....Initiates to Sinbad need only know that he is an Arabic hero who's disquiet nature led him into a series of dangerous adventures across the globe which saw him encounter magic, the undead, fantastical creature and so on. To set a new film on Mars is quite a departure but on that would let the imagination run freely and take a step away from the mythological nature of the stories (something which might get entangled with the already running Titans franchise) and who knows, why shouldn't an interplanetary Sinbad be more appealing?
Sinbad: Rogue of Mars will see Sinbad and his crew transported to Mars by a malevolent Jinn (demon spirit) in order to release an army of his warriors trapped there so he can wreak his vengeance upon those who imprisoned them there.
No word as yet as to whether or not it will be live action or animation but we'll update as it comes.
