It's All about the moolah baby! Some say I'm cynical but it's the truth.
Animated comedy "Hop" denies Russel Brand's Arthur remake a shot at the title by taking a second week at number one and inflating it's worldwide take to over $70 million which makes it's production budget. Still not sure how a film about rabbits can cost $68 million.
Saoirse Ronan's "Hanna" opens lightly to a $12 million take after a very quiet marketing campaign (I've yet to see a TV ad for this). Sucker Punch continues to perform badly and drops out of the top ten, proving a fervent imagination is no proof of box office glory. Source Code scrapes another $9 million after two weeks and still hasn't made back it's budget, confirming that Jake Gyllenhaal can't put a bum on a seat, probably not even his own.
But the biggest turnaround this week is from the director and writer of the original Saw movie, Insidious, which pulled in $27 million on a $1,5 million budget. With almost zero marketing this is a major return for the makers.
