Lost and Cloverfield producer JJ Abrams says that he will not be the man to tackle Stephen King's self proclaimed magnum opus "The Dark Tower". The series of seven books has been long coined as unfilmable (like so many other now filmed) but last year Abrams signed a deal for $19 saying he was up to the task. Now he says that he is not and that he doesn't want to take the chance that he will ruin the book he loves.
Whether or not this will ever be filmed is down to a question of length rather than scope as it is a massive story (so i hear, i've not read it) played out over many timelines and dimensions. Many believe it would be better served as an elongated TV miniseries. Either way, Abrams is out and now the producers will be panicking a little as i doubt this will be happening any time in the next ten years, if at all.
