X-men 1+2 director Brian Singer has stated desire to return to the X-men universe In an online interview he said this.
“I’m eternally intertwined with X-Men now,” he told them. “What takes an audience four hours to watch - the first two movies - took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it….It’s a shame.” They also asked Singer whether he wished he had directed the third “X-Men” movie, to which he replied, “It’s weird for me to watch it, because I’m so close to the universe. And also Brett is a good friend of mine. But, of course, I would love to return to that universe.”
For some this might be great news but i never thought he did anything great with X-men. I think the excitement of seeing fan favourites on screen mixed with Singers levity for the screen helped convice people it was a better movie than it was. He seemed more interested in the character relationships than the X-men. X2 was better but not by a mile and was still dragged down by mopy relationships. As for Brett Ratners 3rd one, so many people lambast it but i think it's a great X-Men movie. Sure it's missing much in the way of weight but the cast deliver and it has a strong heart. It could have done with having one or two extra characters let go though.
I do like Singer and loved Superman Returns but i'd rather see X-men left alone to be honest. Well, maybe Magneto: Origins
